Pool Solar Heating System

How It Works:

The SPLASH pool solar heating system is the most efficient and long-lasting solar pool heater available. You will never question the value of installing solar heating on your pool again. Plunge into a warm pool all year long and save money in the process.

The Solar panels (made of durable and hard-wearing HDPE) are fitted to the roof, and water from the pool is channelled through the panels and heated by the sun’s rays. The water is then returned to the pool by the existing pool pump.

With such an efficient pool solar heating system, temperatures between 22º C and 32º C are achieved. This system not only absorbs heat directly from the sun, but also by conduction from your roof and in effect, also becomes part of the solar panel.

Installation Process:

Measure the surface area of the pool (L x B) and divide by 3.6 and which gives us the number of panels required for your pool. This formula is used assuming the swimming pool’s average depth is 1.5m, we then find a roof area that is within 10/15m of the pool pump and not more than 6m higher than the pump. For the area chosen we check that the solar panels are exposed to the sun from at least 10 am to 3 pm.

Our technicians lay the panels on the roof or any other structure and secure panels with 2 coated wires per panel to the roof, the coated wire is secured to the roof coping or pushed under the tiles and secured to batons/trusses.

Once the panels are all secured in a line PVC glue is used to couple the panels with straight couplings. Using a 50mm SABS PVC pipe, we couple to the return line of the filtration system and run a pipe to panels, glueing to the straight coupling of the panel. We use the opposite corner for your return line to create cross-feed through panels, preventing air locks.

A bypass valve and non-return valve installed at the pump or on the wall were easily assessable. When the valve is shut, no water will flow through the panels, clients are urged to please NOT leave the valve closed for long periods as the panels need a balance of heat and water to maintain them. If shut for long periods it causes the pipes to collapse in extreme heat conditions.

Best Result: Run the system from 8.30 am to 5 pm, bare in mind that if the pump runs at night it would cool the pool, so try not to run the pump at night, however, should the pump run at night the solar needs to be shut off at the valve.

*Please note that swimming pool water temperatures may vary from different suburbs and houses. Example- Suburbs near the coast or in a wind generally require additional panels to achieve higher swimming pool water temperatures. Pool pump/filter sizes also affect the overall efficiency of your pool heating system, as a “rule of thumb” we recommend an equal solar panel (SQM) to swim pool (SQM) as well as a heat-retention blanket.

Benefits:

  • Repairs can be done easily and efficiently on-site.
  • No moisture build-up under collectors, which could cause premature roof deterioration.
  • Collector is easy to install and operate.
  • The unique design virtually eliminates wind climates, ideal for windy provinces.
  • 12 months on Pipes, Fittings and Installation.
  • They come in Single and Double Density for maximum results.
  • 10-Year Warranty, on PANELS ONLY.

Warranty:

We offer the manufacturer’s warranty of 10yrs. should a claim occur the factory would need to advise on the repair or replacement after investigation. Please bear in mind that the warranty is based on the manufacturer T&C’s and they will advise on repairs or replacement. Should the manufacturer be under administration or liquidation we would need to reach a medium accordingly.
